Member Primer

Welcome to the New England Speculative Writers! In 2017 we started this organization to give New England authors in science fiction and fantasy a voice. The organization relies on members to keep information both relevant and up-to-date. As with any organization, you get out of it what you put in, and we hope you’ll be an active participant and reap the rewards. Below are ways you can start participating in the group!

Access the Facebook Group (Free & Paid)

The Facebook group is a great place to have discussions about anything and everything writing. This group serves as a place to connect with other local writers and ask those immediate burning questions. Reminder: There is no self-promotion permitted in this group. Visit the Facebook Group.

Personal Membership Profile (Free & Paid)

We strongly encourage all members to fill out their profiles. This allows readers to discover more about you and gives other writers the ability to find your location (based on city if you have it enabled.) You can include your website and social media for additional discoverability. To update click “profile” in the top bar and then select “edit.”

Add to Resources (Free & Paid)

Have a great website or tool you use in your author business? Add it to the list with a recommendation to help other authors sort through the drab and find the fabulous. To add click on “Profile” and go to the contribute section of the site.

Submit Blog Posts (Free & Paid)

One way to get involved is to share your expertise and experiences in a blog post. These blog posts are intended to be read by other writers. Once submitted, your blog will go into the queue to be released. Some months we feature specific topics such as “Women in Sci-Fi & Fantasy” and “LGBT+.” To submit click on “Profile” and go to the contribute section.

Preview Book Submission (Paid)

The preview book is the “hook” we send to new signups on our mailing list. Authors can submit a short store or the first few chapters of a novel. At the end of their story they have the opportunity to solicit readers to purchase their book, visit their website or sign up on their own mailing list.┬áTo submit click on “Profile” and go to the contribute section.

Submit a Book to the Bookstore (Paid)

The book store allows both readers and writers to discover your books. We suggest new readers check out the bookstore as a way to find New England based authors to read. Submitted books utilize Books2Read affiliate links. To submit click on “Profile” and go to the contribute section.

Submit A New Release Alert (Paid)

Each month a newsletter will go out to our reader mailing list featuring new releases from our authors. This is another way to get your new release in front of science fiction and fantasy readers. To submit click on “Profile” and go to the contribute section.

Add Events to the Calendar (Paid)

Do you have an event, conference or book release you want broadcasted to authors and readers? As a regionally based organization this is a great way to inform locals. Events can be both physical and online. To add click on “Profile” and go to the contribute section of the site.

Register for the Annual Conference

The New England Speculative Writers Conference is a hybrid educational and networking event for local area authors. Workshops include topics to help authors build their business and expand their brand. The goal is to provide a meeting space to ask questions, network and find more effective ways to market your work. For 2019, any author registered for the conference will be given a paid membership to the NESW website.

Register for a Writing Retreat (Free & Paid)
/*Coming Soon*/

Writing retreats are a great way to not only get an uncanny amount of writing done, but to also meet your fellow writers. Retreats will be planned throughout the year and available to all members. Paid members will be offered a discount for registration. To submit click on “Profile” and go to the contribute section.
