Frequently Asked Questions

So, is this a conference or a networking event?

Both! We understand that many authors feel isolated in their career. The New England Speculative Writers Conference is a chance to learn collectively on how to market yourself and your books and to network with fellow authors. We have created this event to meet both needs. There will be a series of speakers giving industry tips and tricks and designated times to interact, network, and meet authors in and out of your genre.

What’s the schedule so far?

We are ironing out the schedule at the moment. We have speakers talking about audiobooks, maximizing your convention efforts, tackling Facebook and AMS ads and maintaining an effective mailing list. The finalized schedule will be announced at the end of the year.

What’s the transportation situation?

The Double Tree has shuttles going to and from the Portland International Airport. Those coming in on the train or bus will need to Uber/taxi their way to the hotel. Parking at the hotel is complimentary and there is plenty to go around.

Most importantly, where can I get coffee?

The most important question! There is a Starbucks a short two-hundred foot walk from the front of the Double Tree.

What do we do about Lunch?

Lunch is on your own. From the Double Tree there are a hundred options for food from fast food chains to sit down restaurants. Going to the Old Port is also possible (though an hour lunch break might be a time crunch from the hotel.)

Will the Bar be open?

Yes, it will be open all day. During the cocktail hour we will be providing Hors D’oeuvres, drinks are on you. The hotel does not allow us to bring in outside alcohol. Because this event is not 21+, make sure you have identification as the bar will be carding individuals.

Will there be a vegetarian option for Hors D’oeuvres and Dinner?

Why yes, there will be!

Is this a child friendly event?

We understand many parents need the option to attend. We are leaving this up to you (only you know your kids.) However, keep in mind this is a professional networking event and there are long stints of presenters speaking. For nursing mothers, there is a separate area in the bathrooms.
